Rosie Perez
Rosie Perez was born Rosa Maria Perez on September 6, 1964. She is an American actress. Her first role in the role of Tina in Do the Right Thing (1989) was followed by White Men Can't jump (1992). Perez's performance in Fearless (1993), won her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. It Could Happen to You (1994), The Road to El Dorado ((2000), Pineapple Express (2008) and Birds of Prey (2010) are her starring parts in films.
Perez has been nominated for three Primetime Emmy Award nominations in In Living Color (1990-1994) and another Emmy nomination (2020-present) for her character in the role of The Flight Attendant. Perez has appeared featured in Broadway productions like The Ritz, Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune. She also co-hosted the 18th season of ABC's talk show The View.
Childhood and early life
Perez was born on September 6 1964, in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City She was the daughter of Lydia Perez and Ismael Serrano, a marine merchant seaman. Her mother Lydia (nee Fontanez y Reyes) was born on 13 October 1939, in Humacao, Puerto Rico. Her father came from Aguadilla in Puerto Rico. Arturo Perez was her mother's 20-year-old husband. After having an affair with Serrano her mother was already had five children. Perez was born in the now closed Greenpoint Hospital, Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Perez is among the ten kids that her mother had. Rosie and her siblings were raised in Bushwick while their mother was intermittently jailed. Her mother was in jail when she gave birth to her first child. After being raised by an aunt, she was placed in foster care and group homes. She and her siblings were often divided. She was put into the group foster home and she lived in foster care New York until she reached age eight. She was legally considered as a ward in the State of New York from age 12 onwards. Her aunt and her mother frequently visited her, and her father once unsuccessfully tried to claim custody of her.
